When I moved into my current home, it came with a rather unloved and overgrown garden. I was determined to make a difference to it as I could see its possibility and potential. I wanted to create a space to enjoy and relax in. I never thought that growing a garden would turn into such a personal journey, learning and growing with nature and the natural world around us. Most of the poetry and posts I write are often from momentary flickers from the natural world around us. I think as a gardener, it is natural to work with the seasons and over years as I trained and moved through the levels of my reiki training and then later my yoga teacher training my relationship with the seasons deepened. Even when I look back at photographs from my jewellery making years, the colours always followed the seasons. Nature is such a source of inspiration to me. Overtime I began to plant seeds with intention and as they grew, I noticed that I did too. I started to notice a pattern to my energy and the more I paid attention I realised I was working with the energy of each season.
My work with the seasons really intensified in 2020 with the presence of the pandemic. Like most people felt, life felt so out of control and I needed something consistent and reliable to hold onto. Nature provided that consistency and reliability, the seasons always change and so will you. Even though the seasons may look a little different due to climate change their symbolism and meaning remain the same.
In the late Spring of 2020, I was sat in the garden resting from the heaviness of long shifts on the Covid wards at a local hospital. In the quietness and stillness, a short verse came to mind:
In Spring we sow,
In Summer we Grow,
Autumn, we Harvest
and in Winter we
Rest, Review and Renew.
The verse became the foundation to a number of workshops that I created over a course of a year. The first one that went to trial was Winter and since then Spring and Summer and Autumn. The final course to write was, A Walk through the Seasons, that sets the foundations to working with each season at a deeper level. Each course uses the energy of each the seasons to move us through the year, balancing out our energy, noticing how we work with the seasons. I’ve used the seasons to help move me forwards with my projects. I’ve noticed that by working with the energies of the seasons I am not as frazzled because I am tuned into how I am feeling. I am calmer and more grounded in what I am doing, I am not pushing forwards all the time. My first course to be released will be A Walk with the Seasons, a foundational course to working with the seasons in November 2022, with Retreat, the Winter course will be released in 2022.
